Mom Wins Again

After a 10 year hiatus, Mom Grady decided to re-enter the Creedmoor 4th of July Cake Baking Contest. In the past she had walked away with four (maybe five) 1st place ribbons ($50 check) and one 2nd and 3rd place ribbon. The 2nd and 3rd place cakes both happened to be carrot cakes. According to her Cake Baking Contest Journal (she really does have one) she noted that she just didn’t think a carrot cake could take the blue ribbon. I guess the 10 year break gave her time to come up with the carrot cake that could actually take home the prize. She entered yet another carrot cake this year and her name was called out as the 1st place winner. A lot of family and friends were there to cheer her on. Her cake was delicious and definitely deserved 1st place (although I didn’t taste the rest).

We Like to Move It

The other night I was sitting on the steps watching the end of Madagascar with the kids. The movie ended, music began and the kids jumped up and started dancing. “Wait,” I yelled. I ran and grabbed the camera. I backed the dvd up a bit and sure enough, the same scene played out. They crack me up. Check it out below.

Eagle Ridge’s Empty Nesters Party

I just had to post a few pictures from the Eagle Ridge Empty Nesters Party that occured last night. Some great costumes were worn by family members.

As seen to the left, Cruella De Vil and one of the Dalmatians she’s had her eye on for some time were at the party. In real life they are Melody and Russ Secrest, Amy’s mom and dad.

They took 1st and 2nd prizes respectively. Congrats! Enjoy those gift certificates. We alway said that Russ gets led around as if he has a collar around his neck… just jokes.

Another pair that showed up at the party was Baby Face Cardwell and Flapper Helen. In real life they are Helen and Spence (Pop) Cardwell, Amy’s grand-parents.

I hope that Baby Face didn’t lose his temper when they ran out of potato chip dip or somebody probably Got It… right in the kisser.

Isn’t Halloween such a fun holiday. People can dress up and have a good time… even if they are dressed up as a dog.

Quick Update

Most of our readers know the recent changes in our lives, but I thought I’d fill in those that don’t know. A couple of months ago the company that I helped found and was a partner in, Mage Web Development, was acquired by our largest client. This was a good thing. I now work for that company, Internet Alliance, Inc. I’ll do an entry on them later.

With the acquisition Amy was able to retire from the restaurant business. She had dreamed about going back to school to become a nurse, so she enrolled at Johnston Community College. She studies A Lot. I thought I would see her more when she quit her job, but alas I’ll have to wait a little longer to see her.

Josh has started potty training and he’s doing a really good job with it. He really took off with it when we made a potty chart. He gets to put up a sticker after each visit. After a certain amount of stickers he gets a surprise. He loves new toys. Crazy huh? He also found the wonderful world of reading on the potty. His favorite is Macworld. He can name all the computer models and ipod variations (I’m so Proud).

Speaking of computers… Josh has really taken to it. He use to sit on our laps as we looked over kid web sites. Then one day he just took over. He now sits on my lap before bed and browses his favorite sites while I work on the computer next to it. It really is one of my favorite times of the day.

Nate is growing up Fast. He began walking a couple of weeks ago, but really hasn’t taken to it. He’ll walk here and there but if thinks he can get there faster crawling, he will. He began writing his second full symphony this week and it is really turning into a real knee tapper. No, I’m just kidding. He began growing new teeth this week to go along with his front ones. This will make mommy and daddy happier. He likes to shovel food into his mouth and without the back teeth to help with the chewing process he gets choked a lot. We have to keep a sharp eye on him while he’s eating.

Hey everyone. We are back to updating our site. I have been very busy at my new job (more on that in the next entry). In addition to that, our server has been a bit of a mess and I didn’t have time to wrestle with it.This isn’t a meaty entry, but I just wanted to let everyone know that they can start checking the site again for new entries.

I had to add a picture though and boy is it a good one. Jacob and Denise Frie’s son Benjamin just got his new glasses and what a cutie. Denise keeps Josh and Nate during the day. She has her hands full watching the three boys. Denise is the sister of Amy’s brother-in-law Don. Does that make her my sister-in-law-in-law?

Ethan Michael Asbury is Born!

Mike, the excited dad, came downstairs to the waiting room last night to announce the birth of his and Emily’s son, Ethan Michael Asbury.

Ethan was born with dark hair (receding already… like his father’s) and weighed in at 5lbs. 3ozs.

I have a few pictures of Ethan, but I’ll wait until I get the parents’ permission to post them… as they might want to post the first pictures of the cutie.
